STABILIZED 2 VOLTS POWER PACK FOR EXPERIMENT 15 & 16


This power pack is designed to replace the lead-acid accumulator in experiments 15 & 16.
Frequently, students tend to make mistakes while wiring up a circuit and cause a short-circuit which would either damage the accumulator or the meters.

A unique feature of this power pack is its built-in electronic short-circuit and overload protection. The l.e.d lights up to indicate normal output but turns off when a short-circuit or overload occurs. It turns off when a short-circuit or overload occurs. It turns on again when the cause of the short-circuit or overload is removed.

Though a common laboratory power supply has a 2 volts output, it is not suitable for these 2 experiments because it consists of pulses of current and is neither regulated nor smoothed. For applications where the D.C. supply has to be steady and unidirectional such as in experiments 15 & 16, a lead-acid accumulator a stabilized power supply with ripple-free outputs has to be used.

Disadvantages of using a lead-acid accumulator in Expt. 15 & 16:
  • It requires regular care and maintenance if it has to last for some time.
  • If it is left discharged to far or left standing for long periods unused the acid attacks the plates to form a heavy deposit of lead sulphate which would be difficult to remove on recharging.
  • If it is charged at too high a rate, considerable heat is generated in the plates which may buckle or crack them.
  • A poorly maintained accumulator would therefore run down rapidly.
Therefore, for reliability and student convenience, our 2 volts Stabilized Power Pack is designed to replace the lead-acid accumulator for these 2 experiments.

RESISTORS IN SERIES AND PARALLEL - EXPT.13


There are 2 printed copper boards which ensures good electrical connections in this set.

One board has 3 unmarked three ohms resistors connected in series with 2 sockets whilst the other has 3 unmarked three ohms resistors connected in parallel with 2 sockets.

All the resistors are rated at 5 watts & are wirewound to withstand overheating.

MOUNTED COMPONENTS FOR EXPT 12 AND 15 (PHYSICS STPM)


The following components for expt 12 & 15 are supplied in each kit:
  • Resistor Pack                 (Expt 12) - 1 unit

3 VOLTS AND 9v - 0 - 9v STABILIZED POWER PACKS (Form 6 Physics - Operational Amplifier)


These 2 stabilized power packs are designed to replace the 3 volts and 9v-0-9v batteries which provide power to the operational amplifier in Experiment 17.

Batteries tend to run down after sometime and therefore the students do not obtain reliable and consistent results.

Furthermore, these 2 power packs have built-in electronic short-circuit and overload protection. When a short-circuit occurs, the l.e.d turns off and comes on again when the cause of the short-circuit is removed.

HIGH IMPEDANCE DIGITAL VOLTMETER (for use in Expt 17 Physics STPM)

Many cheap digital multimeters have a low input impedance and give poor results when small a.c voltages are measured as in part 2 of experiment 17.

This digital voltmeter with a high impedance of 10 MΩ is designed to meet the requirements of both part 1 and part 2 of experiment 17.




EKSPERIMENT 17 - OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER (STPM PHYSICS)



This set consists of:
  1. an operational amplifier 741 board with mounted resistors, switches and 4mm binding posts for connections.
  2. a mounted 2-cell battey holder without batteries
  3. mounted +9v -0- -9v battery holder without batteries
  4. 10 pcs of connecting wires with 4mm plugs
Additional Apparatus Required:-
  • Rheostat
  • high impedance d.c/a.c digital voltmeter
  • signal generator 1 - 30 kHz
